Wednesday June 25. Southern Oregon To Weaverville California.   I did not cover a lot of north to south mileage today, but I did have a great ride on some nice roads. The Umpqua National forest is part of the national scenic roads program.  I rode some of it last year and knew I wanted to do more. Rosenberg to Route 138. Route 230 to Diamond Lake - 62 to Union Creek - 24 to Shady Grove and back to Interstate 5. This is a great ride that takes me up passes above five thousand feet. There is no traffic and I have a quality road surface. The road runs for miles along a river until you start up the mountain.        It's snow covered with lush green vegetation. The temperature rises as I lose elevation. It was seventy degrees when I started and it is now ninety-five degrees. South on I-5 to Route199 to Grants Pass and on into California and Crescent City. The temperature drops twenty degrees at the Pacific Ocean. I ride south down the coast to one of my favorite roads - Route 299 - along the Trinity River. It is ninety miles to Weaverville and I enjoy every mile. I push the bike real hard for awhile but I notice my lines are poor and I keep making small mistakes. I decide I must be more tired than I realize. I back off and cruise into Weaverville. The downturn in California's economy is hurting the tourist business. I pay less this year [$49] for the same room I used last year. The weather looks very hot over the next several days. I anticipate it will effect my ride tomorrow.
